Robert J. Drouillard, 78 of Erie, MI passed away at home on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He had been ill for the past two years, and seriously ill for the past two months. Born February 1, 1937, he was the son of Donald and Gladys (Jackson) Drouillard.
He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic grade school and Monroe High School, graduating in 1955. Robert married Jacquelyn Hutchinson on July 6, 1957 in Erie, Michigan. The Drouillard family is one of the first pioneering families to settle in Erie, Michigan. Robert’s father and grandfather started Drouillard’s Orchards in Erie. Robert is survived by three sons, David (Carol) and James of Erie, and Donald (Michele) of Temperance, a daughter, Dianne (James Rye) of New York, six grandchildren (Joseph Caruso, Katie Drouillard, Jake Drouillard, Jesse Drouillard, Jayme Drouillard, and Olivia Drouillard), two great-grandchildren (Joseph Caruso and Mylah Caruso), six step grandchildren (Jeff Complo, Rachel Grimes, Robert Grimes, Andrew Grimes, Heather Tucker, and Dawn McLennan, and seven step great-grandchildren. Robert worked on the CSX Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1999. In the past, Robert enjoyed gardening, running, lawn care, and two special dogs Gus and Millie. A special thanks to Promedica Hospice and especially Joann and Cindy. Donations may be made to Toledo Promedica Hospice or St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Erie, MI.
Friends and family members may gather together at Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd., Temperance, MI on Sunday from 2-8pm for visitation. Robert will lie in state at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church , 2214 Manhattan St, Erie MI from 11:00 am until the mass of the Resurrection at 12:00 pm.
